Accessibility statement
Holiday Club Resorts Oy is committed to making its digital services accessible in accordance with the Act on the provision of digital services 306/2019.
This accessibility statement applies to the Holiday Club website.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to [the non-compliances] [and/or] [the exemptions] listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reason(s): Non-compliance with the Act on the provision of digital services 306/2019
Visual Elements
- Some interactive elements do not have any visible focus indicator when using a keyboard, making it difficult to navigate. (WCAG 2.4.7)
- The visible focus indicator for some interactive elements does not meet contrast requirements, making it hard to detect. (WCAG 1.4.11, 2.4.7)
- Some text elements lack sufficient contrast against their background, making them difficult to read. For example, white text is used on light background images, making it nearly invisible. (WCAG 1.4.3)
- Information is sometimes conveyed using color alone, making it difficult for colorblind users to distinguish between options. For instance, in the booking calendar, users may not be able to differentiate options. (WCAG 1.3.3, 1.4.1)
Structure
- Some interactive elements do not have accessible names, meaning screen readers cannot describe their function. Examples include the language selection and search functions in the main menu, as well as buttons for opening and closing the mobile menu. (WCAG 1.1.1, 4.1.2)
- Many images lack alternative text, so screen readers read out the image file names instead. Some images have unnecessary alternative text, such as decorative images or icons where the same information is already provided in text form. Additionally, the logo is used as a homepage link, but its purpose is not described in alternative text. (WCAG 1.1.1)
- Apart from the footer, the site does not use any landmarks to help screen readers understand the structure of the content. (WCAG 1.3.1, 2.4.1)
- Headings are not used consistently. In some cases, heading levels are skipped, or they appear in a confusing order. Some headings are used purely for visual styling rather than as actual section titles. (WCAG 1.3.1)
Navigation
- Some interactive elements cannot be accessed using a keyboard. For example, the main menu is sometimes unreachable, and certain critical elements in the booking process cannot be used with a keyboard at all. (WCAG 2.1.1)
- The focus order is inconsistent in some parts of the site. For example, on the homepage, certain elements have a positive tabindex value, which disrupts the expected focus order. Additionally, some elements require multiple tab presses to skip past them. (WCAG 2.4.3)
- The site does not provide a way to skip repetitive content and go directly to the main content of a page. (WCAG 2.4.1)
- The active state of elements is not always visually or programmatically indicated (e.g., in the main menu), making it difficult for users to know where they are. (WCAG 1.3.1)
Forms
- Error messages have several accessibility issues:
- Errors are indicated using only color, making them difficult to notice for some users. (WCAG 1.4.1, 3.3.1)
- Error messages are not programmatically linked to the incorrect form fields, so screen readers do not announce them in the right context. (WCAG 1.3.1)
- Invalid fields are not programmatically marked as incorrect. (WCAG 3.3.1)
- When submitting an incomplete or incorrect form, the keyboard or screen reader focus is not automatically moved to the first error field.
- Error messages that appear while filling out the form are not read aloud by screen readers. (WCAG 4.1.3)
- When purchasing a gift card, a required select element is marked programmatically in the container element rather than in the element itself, preventing screen readers from recognizing it as a mandatory field. (WCAG 1.3.1, 3.3.2)
Element-Specific Issues
- The main menu is sometimes completely inaccessible via keyboard. When it is accessible, using it is difficult. The submenu items open as overlays, but focus is not managed correctly, causing users to accidentally exit the menu. Additionally, keyboard users are not given a visible focus indicator, making it hard to understand their location within the menu. (WCAG 1.1.1, 1.3.1, 2.1.1, 4.1.2)
- The site contains multiple modal elements (pop-ups that appear over the page), like for instance the submenus of the main menu. These modals do not properly manage focus, making them very difficult to use with a keyboard. (WCAG 1.3.2, 2.4.3, 4.1.2)
- The mobile menu toggle button is not included in the focus order, meaning it cannot be opened or closed using a keyboard or screen reader. Additionally, the button does not indicate whether the menu is currently open or closed. (WCAG 2.1.1, 4.1.2)
