The skiing season at Ruka usually begins in October and lasts until after the first of May. There are 28 slopes totalling 400 km. Local companies provide programme services that will take you on snowmobile safaris (as many as 500 km of trails), husky and snowshoe safaris, and on trips to reindeer farms.
Kuusamo has magnificent hiking terrain, as well as Finland’s most popular hiking route Karhunkierros (‘bear run’) and the country’s longest summer sled track. You can also go canoeing, white-water rafting, horse-back riding, mountain biking, and play golf on Ruka’s golf course. The colourful autumn also offers an excellent holiday setting: abundant catches of fish, berry-picking, mushroom-picking and game hunting are excellent ways to spend an active holiday.
The Holiday Club Kuusamon Tropiikki spa and other services are just 15 minutes away from Ruka.
