The superb Ruka ski resort is just 15 minutes from Holiday Club Kuusamon tropiikki. You will be taken by car to a reindeer farm, where a reindeer herder will welcome you. You will learn about the life of reindeers and herding, go on a 300 m sledge ride pulled by Rudolph himself and feed the reindeer.

When there is too much snow for hiking, what can you do? Strap on a pair of snowshoes, which will help you to walk and make sure your feet do not sink into the snow. Oulanka National Park is famous for its impressive landscapes and waterfalls, and it is an amazing experience in the peaceful winter time. Snowshoeing trips are also suitable for families.

This day-long safari offers an unforgettable experience in the dusky light of winter or the bright summer days. The safari takes you through the vast wilderness around Kuusamo all the way to the Russian border zone and to the top of Kuntivaara fell, from where you will have a view of Russia.

A magical visit to Santa Claus’ cottage! Start by enjoying some sledging and sausages grilled over an open fire. You will then be invited by Santa and Mrs Claus to visit their cottage, where children will help Mrs Claus to bake gingerbread biscuits and cinnamon buns.

Experience a traditional Finnish countryside sauna located on the shore of the beautiful Lake Petäjälampi close to the spa hotel. Relax and enjoy the soothing steam and the atmosphere of the sauna. In the winter, what better way to cool off that to go ice swimming: lower yourself down into a large hole cut through the ice on the lake and feel the exhilaration on your skin.

Hiking is one of best ways to see the nature of Kuusamo. The trails in Kuusamo vary greatly in length and difficulty, but they all lead the trekker to some of the most magnificent natural sites in the area. The most famous and popular hiking trail is the Karhunkierros Trail.

The 18-hole golf course at Holiday Club Kuusamon tropiikki was opened in 2013 alongside the Petäjänlampi lake. The naturally beautiful terrain is ideal for a golf course, with undulating ground and pine forests that make for an interesting and challenging round.

A great way to get out in the fresh air, enjoy the countryside and play an enjoyable and active game while you are there. Frisbee golf is played on courses that are a lot like golf courses: your first throw will be up the fairway – try to get the Frisbee as close to the “hole” as you can – and then you will need to “putt” the Frisbee into a Frisbee golf target before you can move on to the next hole. Whoever has the lowest score at the end is the winner.
