Holiday Club goes global
Europe’s largest Holiday Ownership operator expands to the Canary Islands
Holiday Club Resorts Oy, the biggest Holiday Ownership operator in Europe, is expanding its operations internationally. In April 2011, five new resorts have been acquired in the South of Gran Canaria, comprising a total of 241 apartments and a wide array of services. Complying with its policy, Holiday Club will undertake sales, marketing, resorts management and customer services of these resorts. This transaction represents a big step in the expansion strategy of the Group.
“This significant acquisition will help us strengthen our position in the international market”, states Vesa Tengman, Group CEO of Holiday Club Resorts Oy. “And our expansion will continue: we are planning to launch at least two other new locations in Southern Europe in the near future.”
The new resorts were chosen after careful consideration. “We were searching for suitable resorts in the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands, and the acquisitions now made meet all our criteria”, says Tengman. “Puerto Calma Group, our counterparty in this transaction, is an established family enterprise with top class apartments and satisfied owners. Furthermore, the beach at Amadores is one of the best in the Canary Islands. The privileged location offers a diverse range of services and leisure opportunities for families and active holidaymakers. Flight connections to all other European countries are excellent.”
Four of the resorts are located in Amadores and one in Puerto Rico – only a 25-minute drive from the airport. All apartments are fitted to the highest standards and have spacious terraces and magnificent ocean views. The area’s unique microclimate is considered one of the best in the world, boasting 350 days of sunshine annually and average year-round temperatures of 25ºC. All five resorts have been designated the highest four-crown classification by our holiday exchange partner, RCI.
Expertise, quality and reliable operations
“Demand for our Holiday Ownership weeks exceeded 10% last year and increasingly more people are interested in acquiring a second home in the south of Europe”, comments Tengman. “There is a lot of interest in timeshare, but the industry offers varying standards. This is why we are delighted to offer Holiday Club’s expertise – accumulated over 25 years of operations in Finland – now also abroad. Our business concept is forged upon high-quality holiday resorts, satisfied customers, reliable operations and the flexibility of exchanging holiday weeks.”
Holiday Club Resorts Oy owns 31 high-quality resorts in Finland, Sweden and Spain and serves 42,000 customers who between them own 67,000 weeks. The concluded deal will internationalise and boost the numbers of clientele: 6,000 new owners from the UK, Central Europe and Nordic countries will join the Holiday Club family.
